Vocational Nurse

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas is seeking to fill Medical Office Assistant positions in the McDermott Center for Human Growth & Development/Center for Human Genetics.  Responsibilities include performing procedures such as:

  •  Administers personal and therapeutic measures to patients as directed by physicians and/or nurses.
  • Obtains medical history from patients through structured interviews in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  •  Assists in care of patients by preparing exam rooms for patient care, facilitating use of diagnostic equipment, and assuring availability of needed patient information, such as reports of diagnostic exams and medical records.
  • Triages patient phone inquiries according to physician and/or departmental protocols and documents such inquiries and results in patients' medical records.
  • Takes, records, and reports patient vital signs using medical equipment; performs procedures of low complexity such as serial specimen samples, drawing blood from heparin lock, venipuncture, and specimen collection and handling.
  • Documents patient care interventions and education in medical records; ensures appropriate patient consent forms and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.
  •  Schedules patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via on-line computer system or telephone.
  •  Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning. Completes clinical paperwork including chart documentation and encounter forms.
  •  Maintains current customer service, clinical, and technical skills by attending training programs and seminars to continue level of competency and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures. May provide occasional working supervision to non-licensed medical or office support personnel. Coordinates assignment of administrative duties.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned.
All required job duties will be preformed in a clinical setting for a large clinical research study. Hours/days varied, candidate must be flexible. Weekend coverage required. Bilingual skills (English Spanish) desirable but not required; previous clinic experience preferred Research experience not required

SENIOR VOCATIONAL NURSE

  •  Maintains current customer service, clinical, and technical skills by attending training programs and seminars to continue level of competency and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures. May supervise other vocational nursing staff and/or other non-licensed medical or office support personnel. Coordinates assignment of administrative duties.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned.

MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT

  • Drawing blood specimens from patients
  • Escorting or transporting patients to exam or treatment rooms
  • assisting in care of patients by preparing exam rooms for patient care, facilitating use of diagnostic equipment, and ensuring availability of needed patient information, such as reports of diagnostic exams and medical records
  • Reporting patient vital signs using medical equipment.
  • Inspecting equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of all equipment.
  • May provide occasional working supervision to non-licensed medical and/or clerical office support personnel.
  • Documents patient care interventions and education in medical records.
  • Performs variety of administrative/clerical duties, such as receiving and scheduling patient appointments, distributing mail, and preparing reports and correspondence. Ensures appropriate patient consent and authorization forms are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.
  • Maintains current customer service, clinical, and technical skills by attending training programs and seminars to continue level of competency and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
